Gatekeepers
Being away from home, I found myself hunting for internet access to keep in touch with my friends and loved ones. In spite of leaving with the goal of escaping in mind, something kept me coming back to the internet. I realized then that the staff who worked at various internet cafés were modern-day gatekeepers of sorts. They held the keys to accessing that other realm, the one many of us still think of as secondary. After a while, my obsession changed from surfing the internet to making portraits of these people who, without being fully aware of it, had the power to give me something I couldn’t quite seem to live without.
